You can specify which countries you do not want to drive through.

Note: This setting has no effect for reference vehicles.

 

  • In the title bar, click on Settings.

    The Settings window opens.

  • In the navigation tree, select the entry Route planning > Specifications.

  • In the Avoid countries section, select the countries that you want to exclude from route planning.

In 2014, changes were made in PTV Map&Guide internet to reference vehicles and reference routing profiles.

When the message appears, the saved route contains a reference to an "old" reference vehicle or a vehicle with an "old" reference routing profile. However, in the Vehicles drop-down list in route planning, only the current vehicles are shown and taken into consideration for the route planning.

You can choose a vehicle with similar properties in the drop-down list. Alternatively, you have the option to reinclude an "old" reference vehicle in the Vehicles drop-down list (see Display vehicles in the route planning)

Note: We recommend that you always use the new reference vehicles and reference routing profiles when planning a route.

If the map shows only the stop-off points but no route, this may be because you have set locations to not visible.

  • In the Route section on the toolbar above the map, click on  Visibility.

    The window Visibility opens.

  • In the Map objects > Map tab, select the entry Locations.

  • Plan the route again.

(Do you want the routes you have created to be available for all colleagues to use, but only want to be able to change or delete the routes yourself?PTV Map&Guide internet allows you to do this with the Lock route function.Save and lock routesCreate a new route.On the toolbar, click Save as.Save the route in the folder Shared within your company with the option Lock route enabled.The route will be visible to all colleagues, but you will be the only one who can change or delete it.Lock saved routes laterYou can lock routes you have created yourself later by opening the route and saving it again with the option Lock route enabled.  On the toolbar, click on Open.The window Open route is displayed. In this case, check the vehicle selected. For reference vehicles, there is an assumption that they always travel fully loaded, meaning that an empty journey percentage of 0.00% is always shown.

The default values for driving times and rest periods are stored in the vehicle and can be adjusted there.

If you enable the Driving times and rest periods button in route planning, the values stored in the vehicle are taken into account by default. Right-clicking on the button gives you the option to apply remaining times from a previous route, or you can enter custom values.

Important: Please note that the setting remains active in the current session until it is changed again. For example, if you have selected the entry Custom, this setting will be active for every new instance of route planning. If you log off from PTV Map&Guide internet without saving the profile, the setting is reset and route planning with driving times and rest periods is again based on the default values from the vehicle.

  • In the title bar, click on

  • Select the  Vehicle Management entry from the context menu.

    Vehicle management opens in a new tab.

  • From the list, select the vehicle whose values you want to change.

    The Edit vehicle <vehicle name> window opens.

  • Switch to the Break times tab.

  • Enter the desired values in the Break regulations and Rest period regulations sections.

  • Right-click the Driving times and rest periods routing parameter.

  • Select the Custom entry from the For new routes drop-down list.

  • Enter the desired values in the Rest times and Break times sections.

 

If you have already calculated a route with the vehicle, you can use the remaining times in a new route.

Note: If there are no remaining times, all values are reset to the vehicle default times.

  • Right-click the Driving times and rest periods routing parameter.

  • Select the Use remaining times from route entry from the For new routes drop-down list.

  • Enter the desired values in the Rest times and Break times sections.

In order to take opening hours into account, you have the following options.

1. Enter opening hours into the stop-off point list and plan the route

Entered opening hours at stop-off points will be included during route calculation.

 

  • Enter the stop-off points on your route.

  • If you want to enter an opening time or a stay time at a stop-off point, double click the stop-off point and enter the required data under Times (see Entering times )

  • Enter your desired departure time.

  • Ensure that the Time slot button is enabled in the Routing options area.

    Note: The button is disabled if it is greyed out.

  • Select the desired optimisation setting using the small arrow on the Optimisation button (see Customising sequence optimisation settings).

    Note: Sequence optimisation based on road kilometres is only possible if the stop-off point list is shorter than 50 stop-off points and if no pickup and delivery has been specified for the stop-off points.

  • Start optimising and calculating the route by clicking Optimisation.

2. Store customer opening hours in the database and plan the route

If you manage your customer data in the data manager, you can define the individual opening hours for each customer. When transferring customers into the stop-off point list, the opening hours will also be transferred so that you can calculate a route on the basis of the specified hours.

 

  • Create a database in the Data Manager use case (see Create database).

    Notes: For PTV Map&Guide internet the opening hours to be identified, the opening hours must be assigned to the field type Start of time slot and End of time slot. If you have already created a customer table without opening hours, you can add the required fields (see Changing the data structure).

  • Change to the Route Planning use case.

  • Click on and select the database of your customers from the list.

  • Enter e.g. the required customer number in the Search term field.

    Note: You can search for values if the corresponding field has been labelled as a search field (see  Enable browsing according to field contents).

  • Select the desired database from the search results list.

The data record with the stored opening hours is added to the list of stop-off points.

If you import the stop-off points into the route planning from a text file, the addresses are geocoded.

  • If an imported stop-off point cannot be uniquely assigned to a place, it has a yellow background in the list of stop-off points

  • If an imported stop-off point cannot be assigned to a place, it has a pink background.

If you get different toll results for the same stop-off point list and same vehicle, please check the route's departure time and departure date.

On a few roads, such as the Brenner Autobahn, the toll differs depending on the date and time and may therefore give different results.

If you want to optimise your route according to the opening hours at the stop-off points, proceed as follows:

 

  • Enter the stop-off points on your route.

  • If you want to enter an opening time or a stay time at a stop-off point, double click the stop-off point and enter the required data under Times (see Entering times )

  • Enter your desired departure time.

  • Ensure that the Time slot button is enabled in the Routing options area.

    Note: The button is disabled if it is greyed out.

  • Select the desired optimisation setting using the small arrow on the Optimisation button (see Customising sequence optimisation settings).

    Note: Sequence optimisation based on road kilometres is only possible if the stop-off point list is shorter than 50 stop-off points and if no pickup and delivery has been specified for the stop-off points.

  • Start optimising and calculating the route by clicking Optimisation.

The route is calculated and the sequence of stop-off points will be optimised according to the selected settings.

 

In PTV Map&Guide internet, long-term time-dependent blocks, such as truck bans, can be taken into account when route planning.

However, this is only possible if the route is calculated without driving times and rest periods and no stay duration is entered for the stop-off points.

 

  • In the title bar click on Settings.

  • In the navigation tree, select the Route planning entry > Specifications.

  • In the Additional restrictions area, enable the option to take into account Blocks with temporal restrictions.

Note: Temporal blocks are only included if the route is planned with a vehicle which has the option Include truck restrictions enabled in the routing profile.

If you have created databases with customers in the Data Manager use case, you can search for a customer in route planning and use the address as a stop-off point.

Example

You have created a Customer database in the Data Manager. Every customer has a unique customer number which is in the CustomerID field. You are searching for the customer with customer number 1016

Option 1

  • Under , select the Customer database.

    Tip: The search will be faster if you only select your desired database and deselect all other databases.

  • Enter the customer number in the Search Term field and press Enter to confirm.

  • The list of results will show all matches from the selected databases.

Option 2

You can also search for a customer number using the address input field. If you add a "+" sign before the search term, a search will be conducted for the value across all databases in which quick search has been activated and in which search fields have been set.

Note: The databases that you have selected under are not taken into account during this process. The Ferries database is automatically selected for quick search.

  • In the address input field, enter a "+" and the value for which you want to search.

The list of results will show all matches from the databases for which quick search has been activated.

Unable to find the customer?

If the customer is not shown, the Customer database has not been selected for quick search or the CustomerID field has not been declared as a search field.

 

  • Switch to the Data Manager use case.

  • From the list in the Administration tab, select the Customer database.

  • Above the list, click  Edit >  General Details.

  • Ensure that the use database for quick search option is enabled and click OK to confirm.

  • Above the list, click  Edit >  Data Structure.

  • In the Adapt Structure window, click the arrow next to the CustomerID field name and ensure that the option to enable search by field content is checked.

  • Confirm your entry by clicking OK.

If there is a customer with customer number 1016 in the Customer database, it will be found if you re-enter +1016.

Every vehicle has a routing profile. Properties that influence route calculation are defined in the routing profile:

 

  • Route optimisation according to the quickest or shortest route

    The shortest route will take you to your destination by driving a line which is as straight as possible. The quickest route will include detours, for example using ring roads, if this saves time. However, the route that is actually taken can therefore be longer.

  • Speed on different road types
    The road network in the map is divided into road types in PTV Map&Guide internet, for example motorway, dual carriageway or country road. Each specific type of road is subdivided into different road sections, identified as "fast" or "slow". This classification is performed on the basis of the average congestion on the section of road.

    You can determine the average speed for "fast" and "slow" sections of the road for each road type. The average speed of a road section influences the driving time for the route calculation.

  • Preference for different road types
    Road types can be prioritised differently. For example a routing profile could define that motorways are preferred and fast roads are avoided.

 

Instead of entering this property for each vehicle, a routing profile can simply be assigned to one or more vehicles.

Several routing profiles have already been created in PTV Map&Guide internet.

 

  • You can change the default routing profiles Truck, Van and Car.
  • There are also Reference routing profiles which you cannot change. These have the prefix RF and are greyed out in the routing profiles list. Each reference vehicle is, for example, assigned a reference routing profile. As reference routing profiles cannot be changed, routes for reference vehicles may be compared between different companies.
  • There are two variants of each reference routing profile. Include the reference routing profiles RF truck, RF transporter and RF car.

If you create a vehicle, you can assign it one of the default reference routing profiles. Alternatively, you can create your own routing profiles and assign them to a vehicle.

When calculating costs and distances, various toll scenarios are taken into account.

A toll scenario contains details on a country's toll charges based on certain assumptions and which are valid as from a certain date.

Example: In the future a new road type will be charged toll in France. Some information on the amount of toll and the supposable starting data is known in advance. However, verified or official data is not yet available at present. PTV Map&Guide internet therefore offers you a toll scenario "France + New road type". The toll scenario is valid from 01/01/2020, for example.

In route planning the toll scenarios which are valid at the specified departure time are always referred to when calculating costs.

Note: If you want to know what effect future toll changes have on your transport costs, you can change the departure date in route planning accordingly.

When planning a route, the toll scenarios are always considered for calculating the costs which are valid for the set departure time.

 

  • Open the settings using the title bar.

    The Settings window opens.

  • In the navigation tree, select Toll > Costs.

    All available toll scenarios (see What is a toll scenario?) are listed on the Toll costs page.

  • In the toll scenarios list, search for the desired scenario and note when the scenario is valid.

    Note: In route planning you have to adjust the departure date respectively.

  • Open route planning and enter the desired stop-off points.

  • Set the departure date to a time where the scenario is valid.

  • Calculate the route.

The costs are calculated according to the scenario.

This can happen in the case of a route-based toll when a long route runs almost exclusively on toll roads.

In PTV Map&Guide internet the route length is calculated on a different data basis than the toll route.

 

  • Route length: On the map, each street is divided into segments. There are different attributes for each segment, for example the length or the average speed. PTV Map&Guide internet adds the length of each segment from the map to the total route length.

  • Toll route: Segments are also used to calculate tolls. However, in this case the toll operator's toll segments are used. Germany's toll operator TollCollect, for example, rounds the length of segments up or down to the closest 100 metres. Therefore the length of a segment from TollCollect is not identical to the length of a segment from the map. Even if the difference is minimal for a single segment, there may be a difference in the total, especially for long distances.

This can happen in the case of a route-based toll when a long route runs almost exclusively on toll roads.

In PTV Map&Guide internet the route length is calculated on a different data basis than the toll route.

The chosen route depends on the selected vehicle and the routing profile which is assigned to the vehicle. The routing profile defines if the shortest or quickest route is preferred or if optimisation is performed according to the most economical route.

Step 1: Check the assigned routing profile

  • Open the vehicle used in the Vehicle management.

    The window Edit vehicle "name" opens.

  • Next to the selected routing profile click Edit.

    The Edit routing profile window opens.

  • Check the optimisation settings in the General tab.

    • If you have selected the option User defined optimisation, drag the slider to Quickest route.

    • If you have selected the option Economical route, check in the next step if a cost profile has been assigned to the vehicle.

Note: If a cost profile has not been assigned to the vehicle or there are no time costs saved in the assigned cost profile, the shortest route will always be selected when optimising according to an economical route.

Step 2: Has a cost profile been assigned to the vehicle?

If you have set an optimisation according to an economical route, you will only receive sensible results if the vehicle has been assigned a cost profile with time costs.

  • In the window Edit vehicle "name", check if a cost profile has been assigned to the vehicle.

  • If no cost profile is selected, assign the driver a cost profile using the drop-down list.

  • If no cost profiles are available in the drop-down list, create a new cost profile using Edit.

Step 3: Are time costs saved in the cost profile?

If you have set an optimisation according to an economical route, you will only receive sensible results if the vehicle has been assigned a cost profile with time costs.

  • Next to the selected cost profile click Edit.

    The Edit cost profile window opens.

  • Check the values in the field Costs [EUR/h].

You will find information on the cost profile in the article Create cost profile

Over 34,000 parking spaces from Truck Parking Europe are integrated into PTV Map&Guide internet and you can use them to plan drivers' rest periods and breaks.

Note: If the parking can be booked, a button will be shown in detailed view so that you can complete the booking.

 

  • In the title bar, open the Route Planning use case.

  • Enter the stop-off points on the route (see Entering route stop-off points).

  • Right-click on Route corridor in the Settings area.

  • Select Truck Parking Europe.

  • Calculate the route.
  • Switch to the Itinerary tab.

The parking spaces found along the route are displayed in the itinerary.

Tip: You can specify different filter criteria to find the right parking (see Find parking spaces).

There are two types of route in PTV Map&Guide internet, which are marked with different symbols.

 

  • is used for routes which have not been transferred to the PTV Driver app.
  • is used for routes which have been sent to the PTV Driver app.
If you regularly drive certain routes, you can save a list of stop-off points and repeatedly send it to a driver's PTV Driver app. Enter the stop-off points on the route.Add to the order data, stay times and time slots if required.Save the stop-off point list with a meaningful name. You can now load the stop-off point list repeatedly and send it to a driver. Open the stop-off point list.Enter the correct departure date.Calculate the route.Send the route to the driver. Once you send the route to a driver it must be saved in the Shared within your company folder. This ensures that the sent route can be updated at any time. You can identify sent routes as they have the symbol in front.
You can identify routes which have not been sent by the symbol .

Route status

Colour Description

Green:

  • Trip has ended or
  • trip is currently in progress

Red:

  • The trip includes delays which are longer than the maximum tolerated difference or
  • At least one stop on the trip has been cancelled

Yellow:

  • Outdated trips
  • Trips during which a delay occurred during at least one stop

White: Route sent, trip has not yet started

 

 

Stop-off point status

The current status of each stop-off point is shown when you open the sent route.

ID Description
Sent

The stop-off point has been sent to the driver
Being driven to

The driver has selected the stop-off point in the PTV Driver app and calculated the route
Arrived

The driver has arrived at the stop-off point and confirmed the arrival in the PTV Driver app.
Departed

The driver has selected the next stop-off point in the PTV Driver app.

Note: The Departed status is only shown if the stop-off point previously had the status Arrived.
Cancelled The stop-off point was "skipped" in the PTV Driver app.
Suspended This status is shown if the driver chooses "Stop" in the PTV Driver app, answers the question "Have you reached your destination?" with "No" and starts calculation for the next stop-off point.

If you have sent a route to a driver's PTV Driver app, PTV Map&Guide internet receives information from the driver about whether the trip is progressing to plan.

In the Sent Routes use case you can view the status of the trip using the SCEM IDs.

In the itinerary, the height above sea level is shown for each route point.

 

  • Calculate a route.

  • Switch to the Itinerary tab.

    The Stop-off points only option is selected by default. In this view, the height above sea level is shown for each stop-off point in the Height profile column. From the second stop-off point, you will also receive information about the maximum height of the previous stage.

  • Select the option Major intermediate points or the option Detailed route.

    In the itinerary, the height of each route point is shown.

Tip: If the heights are not shown, the relevant columns have been hidden. In this case, click on the small arrow at the head of the column and select the columns Height profile and Max. height on previous stage.

The route calculation result also shows the highest and lowest points on the route.

Tip: Double-click on the highest or lowest point to display it in the map.

In PTV Map&Guide internet, enter all of the costs into a cost profile. You can assign the cost profile to vehicles or select them in a targeted manner during route planning.

  • In the title bar, click on   

  • Select the  Vehicle Management entry in the context menu.

    Vehicle management opens in a new tab.

  • Click on the Cost profiles tab.

  • Click  New in the toolbar or open an existing cost profile.

  • Enter the following values into the Route-based costs area.

    Fuel consumption (l per 100 km

    Enter the fuel consumption in litres per 100 km.

    Fuel price per l

    Enter the price of fuel in EUR per litre.
    Fuel costs per km Display of the calculated fuel costs per km.

  • The calculated costs are shown under Route costs (per km).

If you select the amended cost profile in route planning, the consumption and fuel costs are shown in the route calculation result.

By double-clicking on a route planning tab you can change its name. If you want to show the tab again when you next start it up, you must save the profile.

 

  • In the title bar click My account > Save profile.

    The window PTV Map&Guide internet - Save profile opens.

  • In the View area, activate the options Open use cases and Additional information.
  • Confirm your entries with Save.

You can show or hide columns in lists, change their order and save all changes in the profile, for example in the route planning results or in the list of stop-off points.

Show or hide columns

  • Move the mouse to the right corner of the column heading.

    A small arrow appears.

  • Click on the arrow and select the desired entry from the context menu.

  • If you wish to show additional columns or hide existing ones, click the entry Columns and highlight the required entries in the context menu.

  • If you wish to sort the list, select Sort Ascending or Sort Descending.

    Note: The entries are greyed out if sorting the data is has little effect.

Change order of columns

You can move columns with the mouse. Click on the column heading, hold the left mouse button pressed and move the column to the desired position. If two blue arrows are displayed between the tabs, you can "drop" the column.

Save changes to the profile

  • In the title bar click My account > Save profile.

    The Save profile window opens.

  • In the View section, select the Column formats options.

  • Confirm your changes with Save profile data.

Tip: If you always want to save the view when you exit, enable the Save profile on exit option under My account.

Data Manager ...

 

In the Data Manager, you can integrate your own addresses, such as those of customers or suppliers, into PTV Map&Guide internet as a database. The addresses are displayed on the map and can be used to plan a route.

Limitations

Please note that the following limitations apply to the amount of data managed for performance reasons:

  • In the Data manager you can create and manage a maximum of 5 data sets. Even if you are using multiple licences and work with multiple users in data manager, this number does not increase.

  • Each data set may contain a maximum of 1,000 records.

  • Each data set may contain a maximum of 30 columns.

  • Each csv file that you upload cannot be larger than 5 MB.

Limitations of a test version

If you are using a test version, you are limited to the following:

  • In Data Manager, a maximum of two data sets can be created and managed.

  • Each data set may contain a maximum of 50 records.

  • Each data set may contain a maximum of 30 columns.

  • Each csv file that you upload cannot be larger than 5 MB.

Tip: The Administration tool shows you how many data sets have already been created.

A point on a map is always described using a pair of coordinates, the latitude and the longitude.

In PTV Map&Guide internet, addresses can be imported and geocoded using your coordinates.

The following coordinate formats can be used:

 

 

  • WGS 84 decimal

    Reference system is WGS 84 (World Geodetic System).

    The coordinates are specified in decimal degrees,

  • PTV Mercator

    Reference system is a Mercator projection.

    The Mercator format is an internal coordinate format which you can use to replace geographical data in PTV products.

    If, for example, you export a database, you receive the coordinates in the Mercator format. You can import data records exported in this way into other PTV products and geocode them on the basis of the coordinates.

If you have imported an address file but the data is not displayed, this may be because of the filter selected.

 

  • Set the filters above the address list to All records

With automatic geocoding, it may be that some addresses cannot be found on the map, as no corresponding entry in the location database could be found.

It may equally be that an entry has been found in the database but the location data differs from the imported location data slightly, for example the house number.

Via the symbols in the address list

You get an overview of the quality of the geocoding from the first column of the address list.

 

 

In the Info column of the address list, different coloured symbols are used to show whether there is a difference between the location data in the imported address and the address on the map. Addresses moved manually are also identified.

If the symbol is missing in the Info column, this means that the address could not be geocoded.

Symbol Description
The imported address data matches the allocated address on the map.
The imported address was manually post-geocoded on the map.
Small differences between the imported address data and the allocated address on the map. For example, this may occur if the imported address has a house number which has not been found by PTV Map&Guide internet in the location database. The data set is then geocoded on the centre of the street.
The imported data record was allocated a position on the map using the coordinates given.
There are relatively large differences between the imported address data and the assigned address on the map.

 

Via the filter above the address list

Above the address list there is a drop-down list with pre-defined filters. If you apply these filters, only data records which correspond to the filter criterion will be displayed.

 

We offer the following filters:

 

  • All records
  • All geocoded records
  • All non-geocoded records
  • All geocoded records without location precision

    Display of all records for which there is a postcode, but not a location.

  • All geocoded records without street precision

    Display of all records for which a postcode and location are available, but for which there is no street or house number or which are not identical to the street and house number of the imported address.

  • All geocoded records without house number precision

    Display of all records for which a postcode, a location and a street are available, but for which there is no house number or for which the house number is not identical to that of the imported address.

  • All marked records

    Display of all marked records.

    Tip: You can mark data records in the list with a mouse click + SHIFT or a mouse click + CTRL.

In the Data Manager, the original address and the geocoded address are shown in the detailed view for the record.

Original address

An address that was entered manually is the address that was entered first and saved. For imported addresses, the transferred import addresses is shown.

Geocoded address

As soon as the address is geocoded, the address from the PTV Map&Guide internet locations database is displayed.

 

The original address may therefore differ from the geocoded address.

 

If you filter an address list by columns, all of the data which contains the entered value in the column is displayed.

For example, if you filter the postcode column for a "7", the addresses which have a "7" in the postcode will be displayed: 76131, 67677, 54772, etc.

If you wish to filter for an exact value, then enter the filter value in inverted commas, e.g. "76131".

Note: Moving addresses in the map is only possible in the Data Manager during the manual geocoding of addresses.

  • Open the database (see Open Database).

  • Via the drop-down list , select the records for which you wish to perform geocoding (see Selecting records for post-geocoding).

  • In the toolbar, click on Manual.

    Manual geocoding now starts. In the area Manual Post-geocoding, the fields for entry of the location are displayed with the data from the original address.

    On the map, the position of the address is indicated with a circle:

  • Zoom into the map until you can easily recognise the required position.

  • Click on the green circle, hold the left mouse button pressed and move the circle to the new position.

The new position is adopted as the coordinates of the address.

You have the option to assign different symbols to individual addresses.

Alternatively, you can filter addresses graphically. Addresses are displayed in different colours on the map according to different criteria (e.g. sales) by means of a graphical filter.

Assigning different symbols to addresses

After importing, addresses are shown with the symbol you assigned to the database during import (see Database - Graphic Display).

In order to display addresses from the database with different symbols on the map, two steps are necessary:

Assigning a symbol to the database

Upload the symbols you wish to use for displaying addresses on the map.

 

  • Select Edit > Address Display on the toolbar above the list.

  • Select the option Use custom symbol in the Symbol tab.

  • Click on Upload icon and select the desired graphics file.

    Notes: Graphics files of up to 48 x 48 pixels can be displayed as symbols in the program. You can upload graphics of up to 256 x 256 pixels; these will be reduced to the size of 48 x 48 pixels. The graphics file must be in an appropriate format.

The symbols are available in the database and can be assigned to an address.

Assigning a symbol to an address

  • Open the database (see Open Database).

  • Select a new symbol in the list of addresses under the Map symbol column.

Tip: Alternatively, you can modify the symbol via Edit > Change in the Modify data record window.

Graphically filtering addresses

  • Open the Data Manager (see Opening Data Manager). ).

  • Select the required database.

  • Select Edit > Address Display on the toolbar above the list.

  • Select the option Use standard symbol in the Symbol tab.

  • Select the desired standard symbol.

  • Activate the Colour range option.

    The Set colour range window opens.

  • Select the field to which the filter should apply.

  • Enter the desired From and To value ranges in the list.

    Tip: You can create new value ranges in New.

  • Specify how large the symbol should appear on the map using the Size drop-down list.

  • Confirm your entries with Save.

At import you can specify which symbol is used to display the data record in the list and on the map.

To do this, the column ICON_NAME must be present in the import file, you can specify the desired symbol for the data records.

 

  • Expand your import file with the field ICON_NAME.

  • Enter the names of the desired symbols for the data records without file extensions.

    Note: If you do not wish to use any special symbols for data records, leave the field empty. You can select a standard symbol for these data records at import.

  • Open the Data Manager use case.

  • Click on New database > Use import file.

  • Select the import file in the General details tab in Search.

    The data records are shown in a preview.

  • Click on Next.

  • Assign the appropriate field type to the fields in the Table structure tab.

  • Click Next and confirm your entries.

  • In Use own symbols in the Graphic details tab, upload the symbols that you have provided for the data records.

    Note: If you import data records without information on the symbol used, then after
    uploading your symbols, you must check the Use standard symbol option and select a symbol.

  • Click on Next.

  • In the Geographic details tab, determine on the basis of which location information the data records should be geocoded.

  • Click on Import and start Geocoding.

If you are unable to modify or delete addresses in a database, then you have read-only access to the data.

A database to which you have read-only access is labelled in the Management tab with the symbol.

Note: You can assign users full access to databases using the administration tool. For this, in the window Change Group > tab Address Types Rights Full Access must be selected in the desired group for the database.

If, for example, your customer data has changed, you can re-import data and thus update the existing database.

To do this, you have the following options:

 

  • Delete all address data in the existing database and incorporate addresses from the import file

  • Update existing address data and add new address data. There is an option to delete from the database address data which is not in the import file.

  • Add new address data to the database.

Note: You should create a backup copy of a database before making any changes to it (see Creating and restoring a backup copy of a database)).

 

  • Open the Data Manager (see Opening Data Manager). ).

  • Select the database which you wish to update.

  • Above the list in the toolbar, select Edit > Re-import.

    The Re-import Data window opens.

  • In the General details tab, select the import file.

  • In the Field assignment tab, check that all fields in the import file are assigned to the corresponding fields in the database.

  • In the Update data tab, enter how the update should be carried out:

     

    • Option All existing data should be deleted

      After the import, only data from the imported file is available in the database.

    • Option Table is fully updated

      If there is address data in the database and the import file with the same unique number, these data records will be updated in the database. If the import file contains new address data, this will be added to the database.

      You can also opt to delete from the database data records which are not in the import file.

      Tip: You can also use this option if your import file includes new data records which you want to add to the database.

    • Option The technical data in the table is updated

      Tip: Use this option if you have manually post-geocoded addresses in the database (see Post-geocoding of records).

      If there is address data in the database and the import file with the same unique number, these data records will be updated in the database. However, the update will only apply to technical data, such as telephone number, opening hours, points of contact, etc.

      Location data is not updated.

      You can also opt to delete from the database data records which are not in the import file.

  • Confirm your entries with Finish.

 

Other

 

You can use all common browsers. However, depending on which browser type and version you use, it is possible that not all functions will be supported.

Notes: We cannot guarantee that our program can be used without problems with browser versions which are not shown in the list.

Since browser versions are updated regularly, there is still no official release for the latest versions.
Please note that JavaScript must be enabled in your browser settings. Java, Flash or Silverlight are not required.

Screen resolution

Please note that the surface of PTV Map&Guide internet has been optimised for a minimum resolution of 1280x1024 pixels.

If an area of the PTV Map&Guide internet screen is not displayed in full and you cannot expand or minimise it, this may be due to Windows' scale settings.

If these have a value other than 100% selected, this can cause display problems.

 

In Windows 10 you can check the settings by following these steps:

 

  • Right-click on your desktop.

  • Select the entry Display settings in the context menu.

  • Check the settings under Change size of text, apps and other elements. These should be set to 100%.

Calculation according to HBEFA

 

  • Group 1 (well-founded measurement programs)

    CO (carbon monoxide), HC (hydrocarbons), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), NOx (nitrogen oxide), PN (particle matters), fuel (fuel consumption) CO2 (carbon dioxide total and fossil)

    Note: In addition, the greenhouse gas potential (CO2 equivalent, CO2e or GWP [Global Warming Potentials]) is calculated. The CO2e value is calculated using CO2 (carbon dioxide total [factor 1]), N2O (dinitrogen monoxide; nitrous oxide [factor 298]) and CH4 (methane [Factor 25]).

    CO2 total 255.56 kg, N2O 22.19 g, CH4 0.37 g
    Factors: CH4 x25, N2O x298
    Calculation: CO2e = 255.56 kg + (22.19 g x 298) + (0.37 g x 25) = 256.22 kg

The private data of a user is deleted, even if you are blocked:

 

  • Private vehicle profiles
  • Private stop-off point lists
  • Private exchange rates
  • Private pricing models
  • Private routing profiles

For protected, shared profiles within the company, the protection is removed.

The route information and the map are converted to PDFs and displayed in your browser in a new window or tab.

If you receive an error message when printing, this may be caused by one of the following:

 

  • You are using a plug-in to display PDF files which is not compatible with PTV Map&Guide internet. Deactivate the plug-in and try printing again. Alternatively, you can use a different plug-in to print.

  • You have activated a popup blocker which prevents a new tab / window from being opened to display the print-ready PDF.

  • You have refreshed the active tab / window with the print-ready PDF, e.g. by pressing F5 or CTRL + R. It is not possible to refresh the print-ready PDF in PTV Map&Guide internet.

 

You can specify in vehicle management which vehicles are displayed in the route planning drop-down list.

  • In the title bar, click on

  • Select the  Vehicle Management entry from the context menu.

    Vehicle management opens in a new tab.

  • Highlight in the vehicle list in the Visible column the vehicles which are to be displayed in the route planning drop-down list.

Tip: Alternatively, you can show and hide vehicles using the  Edit context menu.

You can export a vehicle profile from PTV Map&Guide internet as an XML file. An exported vehicle profile can be reused in the PTV xServers.

  • In the title bar, click on   

  • Select the  Vehicle Management entry from the context menu.

  • Above the vehicle list, click on  Edit.

  • From the context menu, choose Export vehicle profile.

In the Sent routes use case, the routes of all users are shown. If you only want your own routes to be shown, you can search or filter with your user name.

 

  • Open the Sent Routes use case.

  • Enter your user name in the search box and confirm by pressing Return.

    Note: Alternatively, you can filter by your user name by clicking on the little triangle in the User ID column.

A point on a map is always described using a pair of coordinates, the latitude and the longitude.

In tender+, addresses can be imported and geocoded based on your coordinates.

To do this, define the relevant format with an ID number in the Coordinate System column and enter the longitude in the Longitude column and the latitude in the Latitude column.

 

The following coordinate formats can be imported:

  • PTV Mercator (ID 3)

    Reference system is a Mercator projection.

    The Mercator format is an internal coordinate format which you can use to replace geographical data in PTV products.

    If, for example, you export a database, you receive the coordinates in the Mercator format. You can import data records exported in this way into other PTV products and geocode them on the basis of the coordinates.

You can obtain an overview of the calculations that have already been used and the calculation credits that have been purchased in the administration tool from PTV Map&Guide internet.

You can switch to the administration tool via the title bar >   My account >  Administration tool. You can use the navigation tree > Reports > tender+to display an overview.

Alternatively, you can download a PDF with the relevant data from the reports toolbar > tender+ area > Transaction overview .

You can purchase new calculation credits at any time. To do so, please contact our sales team.

The contact details can be obtained in the tender+ use case by clicking on Buy in the toolbar in the Calculations area.

You can hide the Support Chat in the settings.

 

  • In the title bar, open the Settings window.

  • Go to General > Settings > View area and activate the option Hide Support Chat.

In the Perimeters use case

  • You can show or hide individual perimeters in the list via the Perimeter visible column.

  • You can show or hide all perimeters via the toolbar.

In other use cases

  • In the toolbar above the map, click on Visibility.

  • Select the Map layers tab.

  • Under Foreground, deactivate the option Perimeters.

To see the fuel costs incurred on a route, you can enter consumption and the fuel price into a cost profile (see Create cost profile ).

You assign the cost profile to a vehicle and as a result of route calculation, the fuel costs for the route are shown.

In PTV Map&Guide internet, enter all of the costs into a cost profile. You can assign the cost profile to vehicles or select them in a targeted manner during route planning.

  • In the title bar, click on   

  • Select the  Vehicle Management entry in the context menu.

    Vehicle management opens in a new tab.

  • Click on the Cost profiles tab.

  • Click  New in the toolbar or open an existing cost profile.

  • Enter the following values into the Route-based costs area.

    Fuel consumption (l per 100 km

    Enter the fuel consumption in litres per 100 km.

    Fuel price per l

    Enter the price of fuel in EUR per litre.
    Fuel costs per km Display of the calculated fuel costs per km.

  • The calculated costs are shown under Route costs (per km).

If you select the amended cost profile in route planning, the consumption and fuel costs are shown in the route calculation result.

Some regions and cities in Europe have their own rules intended to reduce traffic in urban areas and improve air quality.

These special areas are gradually being integrated in PTV Map&Guide internet. In PTV Map&Guide internet the areas are shown on the map. The comments for the stop-off point provide information about the special conditions.

You can show or hide special areas on the map via Visibility (see Map functions).
