Automatic route planning

PTV Map&Guide internet, like the desktop version, offers you the possibility to import routes from an Excel® file and calculate them automatically.

In the tender+ use case, you can import, geocode and calculate the data.

However, the use cases excel pro from the desktop version and tender+ in PTV Map&Guide internet are not identical.

Some functions in the use case excel pro have hardly been used by users. In PTV Map&Guide internet we have therefore redesigned the use case in order to adapt the user interface and functions to the needs of the user.

Licensing

  • In PTV Map&Guide desktop excel pro is part of the add-on package Calc+. This had to be purchased in order to be able to calculate routes automatically

  • In PTV Map&Guide internet, every user can access the tender+ use case. For testing purposes, 100 route calculations are provided free of charge.

You can get a new contingent of calculations from us at any time. To do so, please contact our sales team.

You can find their contact details by going to the tender+ use case and clicking   Buy in the Calculations area of the toolbar.

Interface

In contrast to excel pro, the use case tender+ in PTV Map&Guide internet is divided into two tabs.

You can access the toolbar in both tabs. However, only the functions that you can use in that tab will be active.

Toolbar

Addresses tab

The addresses from the source file are shown in the Addresses tab with the corresponding Geocoding status (see Upload file and geocode addresses).

Calculation tab

Indicate which vehicle and parameters should be used to calculate the routes in the Calculation tab. To check whether the calculations are plausible, you can display a preview for each route (see Show preview of results)). If the results are plausible, you can start automatic calculation.

Number of stop-off points per route

  • In PTV Map&Guide desktop, you can transfer a maximum of eight stop-off points per route

  • In PTV Map&Guide internet the tender+ use case is optimised for calculating A-B routes. You can transfer two stop-off points per route.

Calculation parameters

  • PTV Map&Guide desktop allows you to calculate a route with two different calculation combinations. In a calculation combination, you can specify the vehicle profile, charging status, and a toll super scenario. If no reference vehicle is selected, it is also possible to consider route restrictions such as clearance heights and maximum weights.

  • Further calculation parameters are available in PTV Map&Guide internet. However, each route is calculated with the same parameters, so the calculation is always done with one vehicle.

All parameters can be specified in the Calculation tab. The following parameters are available:

    • In the Vehicle settings area: Vehicle, Cost profile

    • In the Driver settings area: Number of drivers, Salary profile, Start time and Start date,

The most important values of the selected parameters are displayed in a preview.

  • Further settings can be selected using the symbol bar.

    • You can carry out the calculation with or without taking into account driving times and rest periods.

    • You can specify whether and which charge state is taken into account in the calculation (full, half-charged, empty or as specified in the Excel® table). You can also enter the TBC load code for dangerous goods.

Calculation results

  • In PTV Map&Guide desktop the calculated results are displayed directly in the program and you can download the results file

  • In PTV Map&Guide internet, you can preview the results for each data record before starting the calculation, and open the route in route planning if required. Once the routes have been calculated, you can download the results file. The calculated results are displayed in individual worksheets in the Excel® file (see The results file).
