Database - Geographic Details

In the Geographic Details tab you specify whether your data are to be geocoded using location details and/or coordinates.

  • Make the desired settings.

    Element Description
Option Geocoding is performed with location information

If this option is enabled, the records are primarily geocoded using location information.

Option Geocoding is performed with coordinates or location information

If this option is enabled, the records are primarily geocoded using coordinates. If no coordinates are available, geocoding is performed on the basis of the location information.

    • You can specify the format of the coordinates using the drop-down list (see Which coordinate formats can I import into Data Manager?).

A preview is displayed as soon as you have selected a format.

    • Use the slider to specify the position of the decimal separator.

Important: Please make sure that you have placed the separator in the correct position.
If in the preview, for example, no decimal separator is visible for the coordinate format, move the slider along until a separator is also no longer displayed in your import data.

  • Click on Import and start Geocoding.

The data are now geocoded, i.e. they are assigned to a position on the map.

Tip: You can close the window without interrupting the geocoding process. The geocoding status can be seen in the Administration tab in the Info column.

Note: After the import and the geocoding process are complete, check whether all data have been geocoded (see Geocoding information). If not all of the data have been geocoded, you can post-geocode these manually or automatically (see Post-geocoding of records).
