Questions about the minimum wage

With EU Directive 96/71/EC, the EU wants to ensure that fairer wages are paid within the EU. Individual countries already had this directive implemented in their national legislation, which also applies to employees from other countries.

There are no standardised regulations for all countries. This means that different regulations come into force and different requirements need to be met in each country. For example, the amount of the specified minimum wage is different in each country.

In calculating the minimum wage, PTV Map&Guide intranet is restricted to existing laws and directives in EU countries which are applicable to truck drivers from other countries transporting freight (under certain conditions).

You can find information about countries in which the minimum wage is relevant under Settings > General > Minimum wage.

Different regulations apply in countries which are subject to the minimum wage. Different criteria are used to define whether or not and for how long drivers who are seconded from another country must be paid the statutory or standard minimum wage. The minimum wage to be paid is calculated using both "cabotage" and "pickup/delivery" transport types and using the driver's employment location and income (hourly wage).

In PTV Map&Guide intranet, the term "cabotage" is defined as follows: goods are picked up by a driver in a country and delivered again in this same country, but the driver is employed in a different country.

In PTV Map&Guide intranet, the term is defined as follows: goods are picked up or delivered by a driver in a country, but it is not a cabotage trip and the driver is employed in a different country.

• A single stop in a country is automatically classed as "pickup/delivery" in PTV Map&Guide intranet.

• Two stops in the same (foreign) country are classed as cabotage.

• After the minimum wage has been calculated, there is always the option to make individual amendments and, for example, to change "cabotage" to "pickup/delivery".

In some of the relevant countries, the minimum wage is staggered according to certain criteria, such as the vehicle type or the driver's qualification level or age.

Yes. In this case, PTV Map&Guide intranet still calculates the cabotage. If you wish to make changes, you can do this in the minimum wage information window.

We have extensively researched the relevant legislation and minimum wages and created algorithms based on these values. You can find information about countries in which the minimum wage is relevant under Settings > General > Minimum wage. You can make changes if you have the necessary authorisations, e.g. updating the amounts.

PTV Map&Guide intranet does not take into account particular regulations for third-party countries which are not part of the European Union (EU) or for third-party countries outside of the European Economic Area (EEA). For these countries, PTV Map&Guide intranet conducts the same calculations as for EU countries.

A wage profile must be created before the minimum wage can be calculated, otherwise it will only be calculated on routes through countries which are subject to a minimum wage.

This may be because there is no minimum wage for seconded drivers in this country.

No. So long as your wage is above the minimum wage in that country, the value that you use will be used for calculations.

As well as calculating the minimum wages, PTV Map&Guide intranet also draws your attention to prior notifications and, at the same time, shows you websites for the relevant countries that you can use to make prior notifications.

Yes. To do so, deactivate the option Include minimum wage legislation in the wage profile.

Yes. At Settings > General > Minimum wage. If you have the necessary authorisations, you can deactivate the option Active for a listed country.
