Re-import data

You have the option to import new addresses into a database that has been created, or to update the existing data using an import.

Notes: You should create a backup copy of a database before making any changes to it (see Creating and restoring a backup copy of a database)).

• Open the Data Manager (see Opening Data Manager). ).

• Select the database into which you would like to re-import the data from the CSV file.

  In the toolbar above the list choose Edit > Re-import.

  The Re-import Data window opens.

• Make the desired settings.

  General Details tab

  Element	Description
  Search button	With the Search button, select the CSV file with the addresses which are to be imported.
  First row contains field names	Activate this option if the first line of the import file contains the field names.
  Character string is in inverted commas	Activate this option if the data in the import file is in inverted commas.
  Drop-down list separator	Here you can select which separators are to be used in your import file. You can freely enter the separators with the entry Others....
  Drop-down list Coding of the import file	The default setting is automatic, which means that the import file PTV Map&Guide intranet is analysed to determine the language code which is used. Alternatively, you can select the language codes UTF-8 or ASCII directly from the drop-down list.

  Field Assignment tab

  In the Field Assignment tab, you can assign the matching field from the import file for each field of the database.

  Note: When the file is read in, each field of the database PTV Map&Guide intranet is automatically assigned to a field from the import file.
  Please check the assignment, as otherwise problems may result when the data is imported.

  Update Data tab

  In the Update Data tab, you can specify how existing data in the database is to be processed.

   

  Element	Description
  Option All existing data should be deleted	After the import, only data from the imported file is available in the database.
  Option Table is fully updated	If the database and the import file contain address data with the same unique number, these data records will be fully updated in the database. If the import file contains new address data, this will be added to the database. You can also opt to delete from the database data records which are not in the import file. Tip: You can also use this option if your import file includes new data records which you want to add to the database.
  Option The technical data in the table is updated	Tip: Use this option if you have manually post-geocoded addresses in the database (see Post-geocoding of records). If there is address data in the database and the import file with the same unique number, these data records will be updated in the database. However, the update will only apply to technical data, such as telephone number, opening hours, points of contact, etc. Location data is not updated. Here you can select which separators are to be used in your import file. You can freely enter the separators with the entry Others....

• Confirm your entries with Finish.

The data will now be imported.

Note: After the import and the geocoding process are complete, check whether all data have been geocoded. If not all of the data have been geocoded, you can post-geocode these manually or automatically (see Post-geocoding of records).
